Does anyone teach OCR AS ’Roman Society and Thought’? I am teaching it for the first time next year and would really appreciate any ideas/advice! Many thanks, Jo Wootton – King’s Worcester.

Hi Nancy, I teach a year 9 ClassCiv group too and have devised a scheme of work this year which covers quite a few different topics to give them a general introduction to ancient world. They have particularly loved the Spartans and we did some great work on the Persian wars too. Also covered Greek gods and heroes and then did a term on Roman topics (assassination of Julius Caesar, life of Augustus etc) My group is mainly boys and they seem to enjoy the war topics most!
If you want to do some literature with them I found book 2 of Aeneid a good one to start with as most of them know about the Trojan war and the horse already.
If you’d like any more ideas/resources my email is jwootton@ksw.org.ukJo Wootton

In reply to - Joanna Wootton posted an update in the group AS/A2 Latin: We are considering investing in the OCR Oxbox for AS Latin – does anyone have it? Is it worth the money? We would be really grateful for any feedback as we have a limited budget and don’t want to waste any money! · View -

As with the Latin, I tried it but I just don’t think this software is worth the huge price, given the amount of teaching material on them. Sure the software allows you to store other resources you’ve created in one place so that others in your dept can take advantage, but don’t we do that in our own way anyway? Try it, of course, on approval, and see what you think!
