For anyone interested in learning to speak Latin or in improving existing skills, there is a very good two-year spoken Latin course on the internet, called Sermo Latinus , details of which can be found here:  http://scholaromanolatina.org/.  The course uses Assimil’s excellent Il Latino senza sforzo (Lingua Latina sine Molestia ).  While the non-Latin sections of the text book are in [...]

I’m starting a Classics Club and would welcome suggestions for activities. So far I’ve thought of dressing up, making mosaics with thick coloured cardboard squares, talking about Roman food and giving them Apicius’ recipes to take home, acting out Greek myths, Minimus and beginners’ Greek, and Latin Scrabble. This will keep them going for less than a term – does anyone have any ideas they could share? Thank you.

Does anyone have the Oxbox for Classical Civ AS or A2?? It looks rather terrible but was wondering if it was actually any good?

Has anyone tried to prepare any exemination style GCSE Latin language papers in accordance with the new spec? It would be extremely useful for mock exams etc.

    Hi hi,
I have been without computer during a house move for a few weeks. If you asked for a copy of my Odyssey stuff and I didn’t reply please email me again and I will send them over!
    Thanks

Hi all, I have been asked to research a suitable location to take Year 7s for a school day trip. Currently, some go to Hadrian’s Wall, but we would like to take the whole year group somewhere. Our Yr 8s go to Fishbourne, 9s to Bath and 10s to Chester. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Chedworth Roman Villa and Corinium Museum are worth visiting and are not far apart. You could have half of the year group go to Chedworth and the other half to Cirencester, meet for lunch at Chedworth or at the amphitheatre if it’s fine, then do the second visit.

Thank you, Melinda. I have just looked at the websites for both and they do look good. I will investigate more. I really appreciate the suggestion; I was at a loss at where to look.

Unfortunately that has now been removed – or seems to have been. However, you can get “4 on demand” programmes legally on youtube now.

have downloaded the source paper for 2010 from the board but they have not put the resource booklet from the exam paper on the website. Does anyone have a copy that they could let me have?

Phew. Well, that turned out much better than I thought it was going to! Many of the controlled assessment pieces were kept as examples (as I imagine happened in most cases), so we should have some marked examples to look at this year!
