NEW resources pages now available for SQA qualifications. PLEASE add resources, encourage colleagues to do the same and to join The Classics Library!! Feed back any thoughts on this….

Thanks and have a nice summer,
    Steve

Great place to discuss Scottish issues. The major issue for Scotland is training new teachers. We should pressure to get the GTP process up here.

OK. We should need a section in Resources called ”SQA”, with subsections for Standard Grade Latin, Standard Grade Greek and Standard Grade Classical Studies, Higher Grade (L, G & CS) and Advanced Higher (L, G & CS). If that were in place, I think that colleagues who teach in Scottish Curriculum schools who stumbled on CL would be more likely to join and upload.

Would there need to be separate pages for Standard and Higher for each option. I’m just thinking of the logistics, and the fact that this would add up to 9 pages. Then again, maybe it would only work if they were separate.

In that case, I think it might be better to have Latin and Greek as a single page at each level. There’s not a lot of Greek provision, so it would fit in the Latin section.

Also, it’d be good if there were some way of getting news of TCL to Scottish schools delivering Classics. Is there a Scottish-specific body through whom we can promote?

Duncan Parry put details of the Classical Association of Scotland on an earlier post in this group. Costas Panayotakis at Glasgow University would have details of its members. I have been away from Scotland for a number of years and, as I said, am returning in September to work at an English-curriculum school, so this doesn’t really benefit me directly. However, I am keen to encourage anything which promotes Classics in general in Scotland.

I lurk. Tell me what would work!

Duncan, I hope that Cicero comp went well. Thanks for setting up this group, but we need to recruit some people from Scottish curriculum schools, otherwise it will be just the two of us! I think we need to ask Steve (if he’s lurking) to set up some headings in ”Resources” for the SQA exams, which will make CL more attractive to most of our colleagues in Scotland.

I thought it worth putting a link here for the Classical Association of Scotland:
